Seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer to work on transcriptomics to support development of therapeutic clinical leads which influence gene expression in the central nervous system. They will be responsible for doing data analysis and automated processing of large data sets generated by NGS assays and providing guidance to the project by assisting in design-of-experiments and interpretation of results. Collaboration with other bioinformatics developers and wet lab scientists is an essential part of the role.

Responsibilities:
  • Support and enable transcriptomics experiments (RNA-seq, 10x scRNA-seq, full length RNA sequencing) by writing code that generates robust, interpretable, reproducible, and actionable results from NGS data
  • Help design, analyse, and interpret epigenetics experiments (ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, RNA-Seq, Hi-C/HI-CHIP/CaptureC, ChIA-PET)
  • Query and integrate data from public genomics/omics resources to enable decision making
  • Ability to enable Project team to rapidly iterate and find ideal solutions
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioengineering, or related area. M.Sc. or Ph.D. preferred but B.Sc. with comparable work experience acceptable.
  • Excellent Python 3 programming skills
  • Good understanding of molecular biology processes, especially mammalian regulation of transcription and/or epigenetics (e.g. Histone Modification, Chromatin Accessibility, DNA Methylation, 3D structural changes in transcription)
  • Ability to help design high-sensitivity experiments to measure transcript isoform expression, bulk gene expression, and single cell expression in response to therapeutic treatments
  • Excellent communication skills with bench scientists
  • Familiarity with Linux environment and basic shell scripting (bash, sh, or zsh)
  • Experience with at least one open-source SQL database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, etc.) and SQL
  • Familiarity with NGS formats (FASTQ, SAM, BED), genomic annotation resources (NCBI, UCSC, EnsEMBL), and neuroscience datasets and resources (e.g. Allen Brain Atlas datasets)
  • Working knowledge of Illumina sequence processing, aligners, and artifacts
  • Familiarity with at least one scientific/statistical graphics programming environment (ggplot2, dash, matplotlib, scipy, seaborn, D3.js, etc.)
  • Basic Git source code management experience
